Clean the threaded socket in the rear of the BLACKOUT® flash hider. Install the AAC Flash Hider Installation Tool onto a torque wrench set for 35 ft/lbs.
The directions say put rockset on threads of barrell and flash hider. AAC Blackout install. Now, sadly, I still need a suppressor. Wasn't that bad to remove the OE tulip at all. Original barrel with AAC FH and AAC blackout tool above it: A bit of heat is your friend, along with making an impromptu barrel clamp if you can. I grabbed a scrap 2x4 and drilled a hole through it, then ripped it in half and sandwiched the barrel in my vice. Remember it's opposite threads - I had to grind one wrench down to get two wrenches on (3/4' will work in a pinch for 19mm, if need be). Wasn't bad, but it's got to be cleaned before the new FH goes on.
You really want to de-grease things to ensure the Rocksett gets a good grip. Barrel with jam nut and factory tulip FH removed: I de-greased the barrel threads and the new FH, scrubbing the threads slightly (toothbrush), then let it evaporate. The 'Rocksett' looks clear, but is actually like a ceramic-based Loc-Tite, which is good up to ~2000*F or so. A few drops on the threads, spin on the new FH, then move to the AAC tool and torque wrench for ~30 ft/lbs.
It's supposed to dry for ~24 hours before use. To make sure I wasn't 'messy,' I ran a bore snake through the barrel twice after torquing it down. New AAC FH in place: Back 'home': I measured everything before and after, and weighed the FHs as well, just for grins. The AAC weighs 4.1oz, while the OE tulip weighs 2.3oz and the OE jam nut (not used with the AAC) weighs.9oz, so the gun gained ~1oz.but 'shrunk' by 3/8' overall.
Logged ^ Member Offline Posts: 226. I've been running an AAC M4-2000 on my AUGs for 6 years and love it.
I've also been happy with Mini-4 and SDN-6s. If you only want to get one can, I'd go with the SDN-6 and hope eventually 'they' (anybody, somebody.) make a 300BLK barrel. The 556 SD is also a great can if you want to save a few bucks. Considering I'm getting ready to start playing with some long distance.308 in the not distant future, I have a feeling the 762-SDN-6 is where I'll go, at least initially.
Down the road, I could see picking up the mini (only have the mini for 5.56, right?) and leaving it more or less dedicated. How do you compare the mini vs SDN-6, and are you running the 5.56 SDN-6 or the 7.62 version? Logged ^ Member Offline Posts: 226. Sorry, I should have clarified. The 762SDN-6 is my recommendation.
You won't notice a difference in dB vs the M42000 or 556SD. The manufacturer data shows the difference, but your ear won't detect it. Brauer Handbuch Der Prparativen Anorganischen Chemie Pdf Reader.
The 762 cans are a bit heavier than the 5.56 cans, but on a bullpup, the balance helps reduce the felt weight. The Mini4 is still only 5.56 from AAC and I know they had been working on the Mini7 but unknown when or if it will come out. It is also not very much noticeably louder. They are all still loud at the gas port and ejection port on AUGs and you will probably still want ear pro, at least an earplug on you cheekweld side. Not as quiet as ARs, but shut the gas off and turn the AUG into a repeater (cock the bolt for each shot) and its bolt action quiet.
If you are thinking Mini4 to stay compact, I get that, but even with a full size can like M42000 or 762SDN-6, a 16 inch suppressed AUG is just a smidge shorter in OAL than a UN-suppressed 11. Starkey Inspire 2013 Software. 5 inch AR-15. I have a few videos on youtube with the M42000 on 16 and 20 inch barrels. They are under the 'Steyr AUG A3 demo 4min' and 'Steyr AUG reloading (A1,A2,A3,M1,Nato,USR)' titles. You can hear the blackout ring on my unsuppressed 20 inch barrel. Charlie - that seems to be the top contender at the moment, although I'm curious if anyone local to me has a Saker w/51T mounting. I went out to dump a bunch of rounds with the 9mm kit today, but swapped back to 5.56 mode to sanity check all is well, and some new loads.I did hear the 'Blackout ring' although not consistently.
In other news, after playing around with many different positions, I've at least semi-permanently got my light remote mounted. When in standby mode/finger off trigger, I can rest my finger on the light remote, and if I had to for some reason, could trigger the light w/trigger finger, although the primary mode is support hand just before VFG cradling the rifle, and can easily toggle the light on/off with my support hand. I may change it up if I move to swapping out the VFG for a rail section where I can drive a thumb into the remote, or even rail-mount the tape switch, but for now, I think it's solid, and have some night training coming up to see if I'm right.or not.
