Interesting that veterans do not have bolt pistols (or any way of getting bolt pistols), so if they fire their bolters they're unable to charge. You can swap to shotguns but then you lose special issue ammo and still don't get +1 attack from 2 CCW's. The relic special issue ammo lists stalker pattern bolters as an option, but none of the models that have access to relics are able to take a stalker pattern boltgun. I think I'll just end up with an allied detachment of these guys for some really effective backfield camping snipers, and maybe a libby for some extra psychic charges.
You know what, now that I'm looking at this, you're completely right. Overall, you're better off with a shotgun and a specialist weapon. It's really the same methodology I was using with my Dark Angel sergeants, taking a storm bolter and a power fist.

Shotgun has just as much variety in ammo types minus the poisoned and gets hot ammo but with a template weapon available, its a better range than the pistol and more shots, which kinda makes up for the loss of an extra CC attack. Overall, worth it if you ask me.
